Thor Heyerdahl (1914–2002) won world fame when he crossed the Pacific in 1947 with the balsa raft Kon-Tiki. Spectacular sailings followed with the reed boats Ra and Tigris.

At the Kon-Tiki Museum you can see original vessels and updated exhibitions about Thor Heyerdahl's expeditions, which include Kon-Tiki, Ra, Tigris, Easter Island, Fatu-Hiva, Tùcume, Galapagos, a 30 meter long cave walk, underwater exhibition with a ten meter long whale shark, Thor Heyerdahl's library, Personen Thor Heyerdahl and Tiki pop culture.

The Oscar-winning Kon-Tiki film from 1950 is shown every day at 12 in the cinema downstairs.
The Kon-Tiki Museum and Museum shop is open every day throughout the year.
